Why Choose Like Movers for Your La Jolla Relocation?
La Jolla is one of the most difficult places in San Diego County to move, and almost none of that difficulty shows up on a quote sheet. It shows up on move day — in a truck that can’t clear a hillside driveway, a Village parking spot that expires after 90 minutes, or a three-storey walk-up with no elevator because the building predates 1976.
Like Movers LLC (MTR No. 0192555, CPUC CA-T No. 604232, US DOT No. 3820244) moves La Jolla households across the Village, Bird Rock, La Jolla Shores, Muirlands and Mount Soledad. We survey access before we quote, so the price you’re given is the price the job actually takes.
Moving Challenges in La Jolla? We've Got the Solutions!
La Jolla covers roughly 5,718 acres and is about 99 percent built out, according to the City of San Diego’s community profile. There is almost no new construction with modern loading access — nearly every move happens at a property built into an existing hillside, coastal lot, or historic block.
Every La Jolla Street Moves Differently
La Jolla is not a one-size-fits-all neighborhood. A move into a Village condo runs on 90-minute parking limits and a stair carry; a move up Mount Soledad runs on grade, clearance and driveway width.
We don’t just serve “La Jolla” we serve the specific streets, grades and building types that define it. Whether you need a shuttle truck for a narrow Shores street or a walk-up crew for a Bird Rock cottage, select your location below to see how we tailor the plan to your block.

Helpful Moving Tips → replace with parking & permit rules
A 26-foot truck cannot legally stage overnight on your street
San Diego Municipal Code §86.0149 makes it unlawful to park a heavy-duty commercial vehicle on a street in a residential district — except while loading or unloading, or while performing a service to a property on that block. Under SDMC §86.27, a “heavy duty commercial vehicle” is any commercial vehicle rated 10,000 pounds or more, which a 26-foot moving truck comfortably exceeds. Our truck is legal on your street while we’re actively working; it cannot be parked there the night before. Any mover offering to stage a large truck overnight is offering you a citation.
San Diego does not issue a “moving truck permit”
The City’s parking permits page lists only two consumer permits — Temporary Overnight RV and Residential Permit Parking. Neither reserves curb space for a move. If a job genuinely requires occupying the public right-of-way, the real instrument is the City’s Public Right-of-Way Permit for Traffic Control, with published fees of $131.52 per block plus an $87.68 processing fee, a minimum five working days’ notice, and Tow-Away signs posted 72 hours ahead. Most household moves don’t need it — and if yours does, we’ll tell you early enough to file it.
Village parking limits
Street parking in the Village runs on 1- and 2-hour limits between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with enforcement officers chalking tires, and Girard Avenue near Prospect Street carries a posted 90-minute limit. A 90-minute window is not a moving plan — so we work the loading zone and timing around it, starting early enough to complete the heavy carry before enforcement hours.

Commercial Movers: Serving Santee Town Center & Industrial Parks
Yes while we’re actively loading or unloading. San Diego Municipal Code §86.0149 permits a heavy-duty commercial vehicle on a residential street for exactly that purpose. What it does not permit is leaving the truck there overnight or staging it in advance.
Do I need a permit for my move in La Jolla?
Usually not. The City of San Diego doesn’t issue a moving-truck curb reservation permit. If your situation requires occupying the right-of-way a storage container placement, for example that falls under the City’s traffic control permit, which needs five working days’ notice and 72-hour advance sign posting. We’ll flag it during your estimate if it applies.
My La Jolla condo building has no elevator. Does that change the price?
It changes the time, which changes the total. Because of San Diego’s 30-foot coastal height limit, most La Jolla multifamily is two to three storeys and frequently walk-up. Stair carries take longer than elevator moves, so we crew the job to match. Tell us the floor and whether there’s an elevator when you book.
Do you handle buildings that require a Certificate of Insurance?
Yes. Requirements vary by building and HOA some managed buildings ask for a COI naming the association as additional insured, an elevator reservation, and a restricted move window. We contact your property manager, obtain the exact requirements, and provide the certificate before move day.
Serving La Jolla's Best Neighborhoods
The Village — flat and walkable around Prospect Street and Girard Avenue. Luxury condos, apartments and historic cottages. The constraint is parking time limits and tourist congestion, not terrain.
Bird Rock — beach cottages and modern rebuilds along a two-lane La Jolla Boulevard with five roundabouts. Compact lots, tight street parking.
Windansea and the Beach Barber Tract — historic 1900s beach cottages, many 1,000 to 2,000 square feet, on tree-lined streets. Narrow original stairs and doorways are the norm.
La Jolla Shores — beach cottages through to luxury estates, on a grid where both-sides parking routinely narrows streets to one usable lane.
Muirlands — half-acre-plus lots on wide winding streets under mature eucalyptus. Long driveways, overhead clearance to check.
Mount Soledad — custom homes on genuinely steep topography, roads wrapping the mountain.
La Jolla Farms — oceanfront estates on acre-plus lots behind private roads and 24-hour gated security. Gate clearance arranged in advance.
Hidden Valley and Country Club — larger lots, mature landscaping, secluded access.
