Point Loma is a peninsula of hills, bay views and streets that rarely run straight, and a move here is planned around that. What Makes a Point Loma Move Different

The peninsula sits between the Pacific, San Diego Bay and the San Diego River, and the hill down its spine shapes everything. Near the coast and the bay the streets follow a rough grid. In the hilly middle they curve with the terrain, and canyons split some streets into separate sections, so the shortest route on a map is often not the one a truck can take.

Most of Point Loma is single-family homes, many of them older houses on sloping lots. That means steep driveways, front steps and split-level layouts more often than elevators and loading docks. We check the street, the driveway and the carry before we choose the truck and the crew.

Moving On or Off Naval Base Point Loma

The southern third of the peninsula is federal land, including Naval Base Point Loma, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and Cabrillo National Monument. A moving truck cannot simply drive onto the base. Visitors need a sponsor before the base Pass & ID office (Building 174, at Rosecrans Street and Strothe Road) will issue a pass, and commercial vehicles go through an inspection point.

If your move starts or ends on base, arrange sponsorship with your command early and tell us when you book, so we can send the crew and vehicle details in time.

Every Part of Point Loma Moves Differently

Sunset Cliffs and Ocean Beach Highlands

On the ocean side, along Sunset Cliffs Boulevard. Street parking is in demand, especially at weekends, so we plan where the truck will stand before move day.

Point Loma Heights and Loma Portal

Hillside streets between Nimitz Boulevard and Catalina Boulevard. Expect slopes, stairs and curving roads; we often use a 16ft truck where a 26ft one would struggle.

La Playa and the Wooded Area

On the bay side, with some of San Diego’s largest homes and mature trees over the streets. We check overhanging branches and long drives before sending a large truck, and bring extra padding for high-value furniture and art.

Roseville-Fleetridge

The oldest settled part of the peninsula, with older homes and narrower streets climbing up from the bay.

Liberty Station

The former Naval Training Center, which closed in 1997 and is now a 361-acre neighborhood of homes, offices, shops and schools. We confirm loading areas and any building rules in advance.

Shelter Island and Point Loma Village

The commercial center around Rosecrans Street and the marinas. Good for smaller apartment and office moves, with limited curb space.

What Does a Point Loma Move Cost?

We charge the same hourly rate everywhere in San Diego, with a three-hour minimum and Double Drive Time:

CrewCashCard
2 movers and a 16ft truck$119/hr$129/hr
3 movers and a 26ft truck$159/hr$169/hr
4 movers and a 26ft truck$199/hr$209/hr
4 movers and two 26ft trucks$239/hr$249/hr

In Point Loma the total depends mostly on access. A hillside home with front steps and a steep drive takes longer than a flat lot, and a third mover often cuts the hours enough to pay for itself. For example, a job that takes two movers four hours comes to $476 at the cash rate. See our Like Deals page for full details, or read how much local movers cost in San Diego.

Parking, Permits and Street Rules

Most Point Loma moves need no City permit: the truck parks in your driveway or at the curb outside. A City permit only comes into it if something has to sit in the public right of way.

If you are unsure whether your move needs one, tell us your address when you book and we will check.

Containers, pods and traffic control

  • Storage containers or moving pods on the street or sidewalk need a City right-of-way permit. The City currently charges $87.68 per week (one-week maximum) plus an $87.68 processing fee, and needs at least three working days’ notice. No Parking signs must go up 72 hours before placement.
  • Traffic control permits are changing. The City has proposed a new fee of $38.85 per approved permit from November 1, 2026, subject to City Council approval.

When Is the Best Time to Move in Point Loma?

Summer and the end of each month are the busiest times across San Diego. In Point Loma, weekday mornings are also the easiest time for street parking on the ocean side. If your dates are flexible, a mid-week, mid-month move is the simplest to schedule. More tips are in our guide to the best time to book movers in San Diego.
